EXPERT THERAPY IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA
OUR THERAPIES
Different people come to therapy for different reasons, and good therapy should reflect that. Our clinicians work with children, teens, adults, and couples across a range of concerns including anxiety, depression, ADHD, Autism, trauma, relationship difficulties, burnout, life transitions, and emotional overwhelm.Rather than forcing every client into the same approach, your therapist will work with you to understand what is keeping you stuck and build a treatment plan around your needs, personality, strengths, and goals.
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
When overthinking, anxiety, depression, burnout, or difficult life experiences start taking up too much space, individual therapy gives you a place to understand what's happening and figure out what to do differently. Together, you and your therapist can identify patterns, strengthen coping skills, and work toward changes that make everyday life feel more manageable.
CHILD &
TEEN THERAPY
Big emotions, school stress, anxiety, ADHD, social difficulties, meltdowns, or changes at home can be hard for young people and their parents to navigate alone. We help children and teens understand their emotions, build coping skills, increase confidence, and practice healthier ways of handling difficult moments.
TRAUMA-THERAPY & EMDR
Trauma can affect your thoughts, emotions, relationships, body, and sense of safety long after an experience has ended. Our therapists use trauma-informed and evidence-based approaches, including EMDR when appropriate, to help clients process difficult experiences, understand triggers, and feel more grounded in the present.
ADHD & AUTISM SUPPORT
We help you better understand your neurodivergent brain, reduce masking and overwhelm, build practical strategies, and create a life that feels more sustainable and authentic.
COUPLES THERAPY
When communication feels stuck or disconnection starts to grow, therapy can help you find your way back to each other. We help couples communicate more effectively, navigate conflict, rebuild trust, and create a relationship that feels more connected and secure.
MIND-BODY
INTEGRATION
Stress and emotion are not experienced only through our thoughts. For clients who benefit from it, our therapists may incorporate nervous-system education, grounding, mindfulness, body awareness, and other somatic strategies to help you recognize what your body is communicating and respond more effectively to stress..
Come as you are. We’ll help you make sense of what’s happening and figure out what comes next!

OUR FOUNDERS
GET TO KNOW US
Fairfax Therapy Group was founded by Joanna Marino, Ph.D., and Lori Zastrow, LPC, with a simple goal: make high-quality mental health care easier to access in Northern Virginia.
Too often, clients are forced to choose between finding a therapist with the right expertise and finding someone who accepts their insurance, has appointments available, or actually feels like a good fit. We wanted to build something different.
Fairfax Therapy Group brings together clinicians with different specialties, backgrounds, and therapeutic styles while maintaining a shared commitment to evidence-based treatment, compassionate care, clinical excellence, and accessibility.
Joanna is a Clinical Psychologist and Owner of Fairfax Therapy Group. Lori is a Licensed Professional Counselor and clinical leader who oversees the practice's Resident in Counseling program. Together, they help support a team of therapists serving children, teens, adults, and couples throughout Northern Virginia. We also believe therapy works best when you can be a real person in the room.
Our job is to understand you, help you recognize what is getting in your way, and give you meaningful support as you work toward the life and relationships you want.
WHY CHOOSE US
Choosing a therapist is a deeply personal decision and we honor that. At Fairfax Therapy Group, we offer more than just talking. We provide grounded, compassionate care rooted in professionalism, presence, and a deep respect for your individual path.
-
We approach every client with gentleness, curiosity, and respect.
Our therapists are trained to recognize how trauma shows up
both loudly and quietly and to respond with care, not pressure. -
We believe that healing happens not just in the mind, but in the body, too. Many of us carry stress, trauma, and emotion in our nervous systems without even realizing it. That’s why we integrate somatic practices and body-awareness techniques to help you.
-
Your identity, background, and lived experience matter here.
Fairfax Therapy Group is an inclusive space that affirms and
supports clients of all genders, sexualities, races, cultures, and
neurotypes. We are committed to ongoing learning, unlearning,
and providing care that is culturally responsive.
OUR TEAM
We believe that healing is deeply personal—but you don’t have to do it alone. Our team is made up of compassionate, skilled professionals who bring diverse perspectives, specialties, and a shared commitment to holding space with care. Each therapist brings their own unique approach, but we’re united by one core value: creating a safe, supportive environment where you can feel seen, heard, and empowered to grow.
